A good man deserves good socks.

Here is a quick update on another project I’ve had on the needles for awhile. I started these back in November with some Lorna’s Laces Shepard Sock in the Roadside Gerry colorway I’ve had in my stash since at least 2008. The stripes look really good in Matt’s size sock (72 stitches). I tried them in my size with 64 stitches and there was some icky pooling of the stripes. They worked well at 60 stitches, but I thought I might not like the narrowness of them. I turned them into a belated Christmas gift for Matt and tried to work on them secretly until just a couple of days before Christmas. Then I let the cat out of the bag, because I’m horrible with waiting to give people good surprises.

I love the colors. I am getting ready to be done with these though. With the stockinette socks, once I turn the heel and get through the gusset decreases I get antsy while working on the leg. I love having at least one pair of the socks on the needles for easy project portability.

I just remembered I have another pair languishing somewhere… Maybe I have more things on the needles than I think…

  1. I have only tried top down socks in stockinette and yes, there is something about that cuff part that’s hard to get through. You brought something to my attention though: changes in striping/pooling depending on number of stitches. I have made two pairs with self-striping yarn and that just didn’t dawn on me. Now I have to go look at them, lol.

  2. These colours are AMAZING!
Btw, it’s so great that you never put (highly) complicated patterns in already variegated/colourful sockyarn like so many others do … I always think that it is more or less a Β»wasteΒ« of wonderful yarn that would’ve looked best in stockinette and that now gives you a headache by looking at it. So cool! πŸ™‚

  3. I love how this yarn knit up into these socks. Now you have me feeling terribly guilty as I promised my hubby a pair of socks for Christmas and haven’t even cast on yet! ; )

  4. i just finished one of the socks im knitting (first attempt at socks, ever!) and i failed miserably at the cuff (i started toe-up), and now it wont go over my calves. i guess it’ll just have to be really slouchy socks then. πŸ™‚ yours look so fantastic and i love the colors! πŸ™‚

  5. I like them a lot! I’ve been trying for a while to make socks for my boyfriend, but the yarn keeps refusing to cooperate! And I’m never sure about how the size will be. Finally I’ve just decided to show them the beginning and make him try it on. It will be less of a surprise, but more likely a success as a finished object…

  6. love love love lornas lace….my favorite yarn to work with, other than my own homespun of course. great job on the socks. I have a love hate relationship with socks…..lately only working with worsted weight yarn for socks, i am tired of size 1 needles!
