Halloween lovers rejoice!

Happy Halloween! This is my favorite holiday, by far, and I don’t even get time off work or school for it. I didn’t know if I would knit Z a costume this year. Last year I made her a mermaid tail. I thought about it for awhile and decided I would make her a lion costume.

lion-2-2I’m pretty pleased with it! I started out with a gauge swatch and some colors in mind. I knit until the armpits, then I had to decide whether I should divide for fronts and backs or do a raglan. I went with a raglan construction, then made a hood, ears, a mane, and a tail to go on her pants.

I decided to go ahead and write up the pattern. You can read about it here or buy now. It’s called Little Roarer.ย The hood was way too big for Z, so I’ll probably make that a bit more reasonably sized in the final product. It could have been worn by me or Matt. Luckily, it didn’t get in her way too much. I expected more of this:

  1. At least for today my son would love to be your son (just a guess) … – he loves Halloween. I am not into it at all but your costume and enthusiasm might make me reconsider ๐Ÿ™‚
Not to mention that Zoe is probably the most adorable lion I have ever seen.

  2. I know I’ve already told you on ravelry – but this is so adorable. Really, really cute, she looks great in it! I’ll expect many, many little lions to run around next year … ๐Ÿ˜‰

  3. Adorable! Sweaters were a necessary part of all my childhood Halloween costumes because it was always so cold (there were multiple Halloweens with snow) but I never had one that was the costume. With any luck, you might get another year out of this one!
